The Oak Grove Campground is off the beaten path, but offers some extra rewards for the effort. The remote location means 9 miles of nearly all dirt road driving, but the road is usually in great condition and accessible by any vehicle. The incredible views include Pine Valley Mountain up-close, and various features of Zion in the distance. These views combined with the cool mountain temperatures among the pine trees make for a unique camping trip that won't be forgotten anytime soon.

Oak Grove Road (Forest Service Road 32) image

The Oak Grove Road is a fun and scenic drive that rises 2900 feet over a short, 9 mile drive. This is a well-groomed, gravel road appropriate for just about any vehicle. Because of the dramatic rise in elevation over such a short period of time, you quickly travel from sagebrush and juniper trees up to ponderosa pines, crossing Leeds creek several times away and enjoying the lush greenery that crowds its banks.

Leeds Creek Kiln at the Childrens Forest

 (3.0)

Leeds Creek Kiln at the Childrens Forest image

The Leeds Creek Kiln was built about 1885, and used to create charcoal for use in the silver smelting process. The kiln is in fairly good condition, and represents a unique piece of Southern Utah history. In addition to the kiln itself, there is an interpretive children's forest leading to the area with substantial information on some of the local flora. With some benches, a nice bridge across the creek, and a picnic table this site is worth spending some time at.
